Abstract

Bogus knowledge approach shows that some job applicants will feign familiarity or experience with non-existing task, princples, or equipment that appears to be related to the job which they are applying. This study investigated the independent samples of respondents in the two situations which differed according to instructions given for self-presentation: honest answer (N=71) and fake good (N= 66). The aim of this study was to construct a new bogus knowledge questionnaire which can detect faking during the selection process. While choosing items to the final version several criteria were observed, and they were different for the konwledge scale and bogus knowledge scale. After that, construct validity was obeserved. Between konwledge scale and bogus knowledge scale and subscales of questionnaires IPIP-100 and CIDR-40 correlations were calculated. In applicant condition no correlations were significant, but in whole sample positive correlation between the bogus knowledge scale and three scales of the questionnaire IPIP-100 are significant: Emotional Stability r=0.237,p<0.01, Extraversion r=0.199, p<0.05 and Conscientiousness r=0.306,p<0.01. Final version of the bogus knowledge questionnaire is positively correlated with the three scales of Scale Comprehensive Inventory of Socially Desirable Responding; Agentic Management r=0.324, p <0.01, Communal Management r=0.203, p<0.05 and the Communal Enhancement r= 0.197, p <0.01.
