Abstract

The aim of this study was to examine the relations between the dimensions of affectivity structure and job satisfaction among primary school teachers. The assumption was that the results on the positive affect scale and the extraversion scale will have the positive correlation with the results on the job satisfaction scale, and that the results on the negative affect scale and neuroticism will negatively correlate with the results on the job satisfaction scale. Also, all the measured personality traits were expected to be significant predictors of job satisfaction. The study was conducted on a convenience sample of primary school teachers (N=104). Variables were measured with these questionnaires: job satisfaction questionnaire (Jenjić, 2001), positive and negative affectivity schedule (PANAS; Watson, Clark & Tellegen, 1988) and IPIP-100 extraversion and neuroticism items (Goldberg, 1999). The conclusion, based on the results of the conducted study, is that there exists a significant positive correlation between positive affect and extraversion and job satisfaction, and a significant negative correlation between negative affect and neuroticism and job satisfaction. Positive and negative affects are significant predictors of job satisfaction and together they explain 16.2% of its variance. Extraversion and neuroticism explain 8.9% of job satisfaction variance, but the only significant predictor is the extraversion. Positive and negative affect, together with extraversion and neuroticism, explain a significant additional proportion of job satisfaction variance (8.7%).
