Abstract

The purpose of this paper is to make a review of options for archiving and compliance with legal regulations using the built-in tools in Microsoft Exchange Server 2010. In the first part of the paper, a historical overview of Microsoft Exchange Server was done, while the second part is based on analyzing Exchange Server 2010 built-in functionalitys in that enable different ways of archiving, compliance with legal requirements and options to search archived data. In conclusion, Microsoft Exchange Server 2010 built-in mechanisms and tools that can perform centralized data archiving and compliance with all industry standards and applicable legal provisions were analysed. Also it should be noted that with proper security privileges one can perform search of all stored data. It is important to point out that although currently storing the data contained in electronic mail is not legally defined in Croatia, by entering the EU Croatia will have to adapt to the EU legislation and the e-mail system administrators will have to adopt their messaging systems to all legal requirements. In that case, one of the solutions offered is the Microsoft Exchange Server 2010.
