Abstract
The main objective of this paper is to present the development of Marx's theory of political economy from the period of his "Early works" to the creation of "Capital", to explain the basic concepts relevant for understanding Marx's theory, and to elaborate on the scientific
conceptual apparatus that Marx had used in the analysis and the critique of the capitalist mode of production i.e., dialectic of philosophy and science, theory and practice, real and possible, facts and values, description and critique included within this conceptual apparatus. The basic thesis I aim to affirm throughout this paper is that, despite the fact that there are many differences in the richness and the concreteness of the conceptual apparatus, as well as terminological differences between his early and his mature opus, a continuity of thought exists, or more specifically, Marx retains the same basic concept and critical position throughout the whole period of his creativity. Therefore, I wish to prove that, while the philosophical analysis of the early period is replaced
by scientific analyses of a structural character in the mature period, and the basic problems are differently articulated, there exists a continuity of thought connecting all the works of Marx's theory of political economy. Finally, the analysis of the basic concepts related to the production process of capital, which is
fundamental to understanding Marx's political economy, is provided.
