Abstract
Corruption is a social phenomenon. It occurs in specific social circumstances, and during its expansion certain social characteristics are being changeing. Devastating influences of political corruption on states and on their population are being examined in this work in order to determine if political corruption should maybe be given a status of a threat for the national security. For this purpose theoretical framework from the teachings of Copenhagen school (which is a collective term for theory coming from the field of contemporary security studies) is used, and it provided criteria for determining security threats at a state level. Security analysis of corruption impact is observed in five distinguished sectors (military, political, economic, societal and environmental). It is shown that, by the Copenhagen school criteria, political corruption endangers nationalsecurity and therefore satisfies preconditions for declaring a security notion (or, in other words, for securitization).
