Abstract

In terms of globalization and information society, economic development becomes a complex process which is based on production of knowledge to support business management. In a dynamic environment, where flows of capital have no time or space limitations, economic activity is a process that requires expertise, organization and speed in order to gain competitive advantage and success in the market. Business intelligence is one of the most effective principles of business management based on knowledge primarily for the reason of including both internal and external factors. In addition, it may be applicable at the level of smaller organizations, but also those of larger, such as, for example, the tourism sector. Tourism represents a sector of economy that depends on factors such as the role of the state, destination development, competitiveness, etc. Multidisciplinary and complexity of economic organizations are a key reason for the use of an advanced system of strategic management. Theories of economic organizations sress the importance of orientation in the business environment (market) not only in terms of success, but also the very survival. Croatian tourism is an example of the many deficiencies at all levels, such as development policies, organization of tourist destinations, and the insufficient level of expertise. In this regard, the development of tourism is expected to have a significant impact on the general economic development. This is especially true for countries where tourism plays a major role in economy such as Croatia.
