Abstract

This thesis scrutinizes the entire childhood among Bačka Croats Šokci in Bački Monoštor in the mid-twentieth century, based on the research which was conducted by the author in April, 2015. The author describes the way of rearing children, their relationship with the members of the household, their mutual relationship, personal hygiene care and children's clothing. Furthermore, first chores and obligations that children had in the family and how children percived them is also scrutinized. Special attention is paid to the way children spent their free time, thus covering the themes: children's games, toys, songs, counting rhymes and tales. The author also investigates schooling and the perception on the need for education, and determines the transition from childhood to adulthood.
