Abstract

The work is divided into four main parts. The first part considers the term „technique“, regarding the meaning it had in ancient Greece compared to the meaning it has today. The second part refers to chronological overview of the formation and development of technical society. Thereat, we named the period prior to the Modern Era non-technical, because in that particular time technique had exclusively instrumental, secondary meaning. Since the 17th century technique has been developing as having a purpose in itself, while the key moments were Baconian method, Cartesian dualism and the First Industrial Revolution. Nowadays, the technique is spread across the whole planet and it took over all fields of activity. Regarding its characteristics of rationality and artificiality, by which it is entirely opposed to the natural, with the current pace of the technical progress we could face the complete destruction of natural environment. Therefore it is necessary to bring modifications to the existing, anthropocentric ethics, and to define the responsibility of human towards non-human beings.
