Abstract

Most people today live in monogamous relationships, wanting to keep the exclusivity of certain behavior in this relation . But the fact is that regardless of the desirability of living in a couple until death do us part " , unfaithful behavior is indeed present , but also judged , in most societies and in all time periods . Although poorly defined in the literature , we can say that infidelity is every sexual or emotional behavior that occurs outside the primary connection and violates the rules of two people in this relationship . The aim of this study was to establish the prevalence extradyadic behavior , find out which behaviors are perceived as unfaithful and how infidelity is associated with certain aspects of relationships, adult attachment dimensions and personality traits . In the study taken by 534 participants age between 18 and 59, who are ( or have been back half a year ) in a relationship or married, the results have shown that 14 % of women and 16.9 % of men admits infidelity , while more than 20 % of women and more than 40 % of men participate in unfaithful behavior. Women perceive a wider range of behaviors as unfaithful than men . Individuals whose quality of connection, pleasure in relationship and the experience of love towards partner are less and those who achieved higher scores on the dimensions of anxiety and avoidance , or who are uncertain attached, are rather involved in infidelity. Correlation between personality traits and infidelity is different for men and women and does not fully confirm results from other studies. Women showed that extraversion , agreeableness, conscientiousness and emotional stability are significant in relation with the different types of infidelity, while men show significant agreeableness and emotional stability.
