Abstract
Social networks have become a big part of everyday life. They've surpassed their initial function of being used for private purposes, and are now being used for commerce, marketing, education et cetera. Librarians, as promoters of information literacy have recognized their potential for reaching users and promoting the library's activity. And they've started representing their libraries on them. And since social networks have been widely accepted by the younger population and are quite widespread among them, social networks should be of interest to school librarians as well. This paper will present the potential social networks represent for school libraries. It will propose the libraries how to use them, which one to pick, and discuss the advantages and disadvantages of school libraries being present on them. It will also present a set of guidelines school librarians can follow while establishing their presence on a social network. A research among the school libraries of the Sisak-Moslavina county has also been conducted for the purpose of this paper. It attempts to find out in what way and number are the school libraries represented on them, and which type of content they are sharing via their social network presence, as well as the response the received from their users.
