Abstract

The paper deals with marketing and public relations in libraries, with an emphasis on public libraries in the research part of the work. The first part of the paper deals with the theoretical view of the areas of marketing and public relations. The second part contains two studies: a survey for public libraries about using marketing and public relations and analysis of websites of public libraries. The purpose of the first study was to gain insight on the use of marketing and public relations in the public libraries management. The purpose of the second study was to investigate how public libraries communicate with their publics on their web sites. Studies show that public libraries in Croatia use marketing and public relations, but with certain deficiencies.
