Abstract

The goal of this study was to examine sex differences in sociosexual orientation, self- monitoring and mate value, and the relationship among these traits. The sample consisted of 187 males and 187 females in reproductive age, matched according to age and educational status. Each participant filled out a Social demographic survey created for this study, The revised Sociosexual Orientation Inventory (Penke i Asendorpf, 2008), Self-monitoring scale (Snyder, 1974) and Mate Value Inventory (Kirsner, Figueredo i Jacobs, 2003). Males were more likely to possess unrestricted sociosexuality and higher self-monitoring than females, while females had a higher mate value than males. To examine the relationship among gender, self-monitoring, mate value and sociosexuality, we conducted a three-way ANOVA. The results revealed that males were more likely to possess unrestricted sociosexual orientation than females, and persons with higher self-monitoring were more likely to possess unrestricted seciosexuality than those with lower self-monitoring. No significant interaction effect was revealed.
