Abstract

Myths about the founding of Rome are an important part of the history of the entire ancient period, so it is not surprising that there are many different versions, and almost all important Roman authors mentioned them. Through this work importance of these myths is being emphasized throughout the displays on coins, which are media spread across all parts of Rome. It is about the myths created by the Greeks who wrote about Aeneas, hero of their myths, which Romans accept for many reasons. Later the myth appears with many Roman elements and according to that myth Romulus, Aeneas descendant, is real founder of Rome. There are several scenes from these myths depicted on Roman coins of which the most common scene is one where she-wolf suckling twins Romulus and Remus. Displays of these myths appear quite early, almost immediately after the appearance of minted coins with depictions on both sides and we have them until the late antiquity.
