Abstract

This thesis presents a conception of an occasional art exhibition on the example of the Strossmayer Gallery of Old Masters of the Croatian Academy of Art and Sciences in Zagreb. The emphasis is on the most important steps in the planning of an exhibition, from the initial idea or the concept through the main elements of the exhibition such as color, lighting, orientation and direction of movement but also the importance of style and scenography in organizing exhibitions as well as the extremely important role of communication and interpretation. The exhibition would include works of art by foreign and domestic artists featuring the depictions of Virgin Mary that continue the Marian imaginary and iconography starting from the 6. century through the Middle Ages, the Renaissance and Baroque until now with the aim of presenting the various aspects of the Virgin, contemplating her as an idea, a woman and a mother and rethinking her religious and social function. Therefore, it would be an iconographic art exhibition, which would at the same time be aesthetic, didactic and evocative, and above all intended for a wide audience. The introductory part emphasizes the importance of Ljubo Babic in the history of Strossmayer's Gallery at the place of its director and his role in the reorganization of the permanent exhibition as well as his role in the transformation of the X. gallery hall into the space/into a place for occasional exhibitions in which a part of the works of art to be included in this exhibition would be exposed. There are mentioned some advantages and disadvantages of the occasional exhibition hall as well as of the exhibition space of the Strossmayer Gallery in general in order to emphasize the importance of introduction of necessary changes.
