Abstract

Altmetrics, a social web metric derived from the need to supplement standard measurement methods of scientific impact by measuring interest and filtering content. It allows tracking scientific impact, but also the measurement of researcher's reputation. What is published becomes more important than where it is published. This paper will show current altmetrics tools and services and explain why is altmetrics needed in the context of today's networked society and tomorrow's open science society.
