Abstract

The focus of this thesis is crowdsourcing in archives. The thesis attempts to establish a theoretical frame and to classify this relatively new and broad concept. Crowdsourcing is a concept that developed under the direct influence of the Web 2.0 platform. People stopped being just consumers of content on the Internet and started to directly participate in the creation of content. Under the influence of the senew information trends, cultural heritage institutions are more and more orientating towards the irusers and the public, and crowd sourcing presents an important tool in this endeavour. This thesis presents various crowdsourcing projects, focusing on those that were iniziated by archives. This thesis also tries to predict the development of crowdsourcing and possible future projects.
