Abstract

The aim of this study is to investigate the importance of the HEXACO dimension Honesty/Humility in understanding work performance defined by three constructs: in-role behavior (IRB), organisational citizenship behavior (OCB) and counterproductive work behavior (CWB). The study was conducted individually on a heterogeneous sample of participants (N = 363) aged 19 to 64 (M = 38.06, SD = 11.66). 363 self-reports of participants in the wide range of jobs of all qualifications and 650 reports of colleagues who were well acquainted with them were collected. The results show that personality traits are important for predicting counterproductive work behavior and in-role behavior, but they are not relevant to understanding organizational citizenship behavior. Honesty/Humility is most strongly associated with counterproductive organizational behavior (r = -.35 for self-reports and r = .17 for reports) and moderatelyassociated with in-role behavior (r = .15 for self-reports and r = .11 for reports). The conducted regression analysis shows that Honesty/Humility increases the percentage of explained variance only in the case of counterproductivework behavior measured by self-reports.
