Abstract

The aim of this research was to examine the efficacy of vocational counseling. The graduates who participated in vocational counseling at the Croatian Employment Service, Regional Office Split in the year 1998/1999, 1999/2000 and 2000/2001 were subject to the follow-up. Experts in the field of vocational counseling divided colleges into groups, according to their complexness and content. Pursuant to this division, respondents were assigned to different groups by the degree of compliance of recommended and selected faculty that ranged from full compliance (recommended and selected faculty are the same) over the partial matching (recommended and selected faculty are in the same group) to the group in which there is no compliance (recommended and selected faculty differ and are not included in the same group). The assumption is that respondents (N=440) from these three groups differ in success in academic performance, faculty satisfaction, job satisfaction and affective occupational commitment. In order to test the hypothesis, chi-square test and analysis of variance were conducted. The results have shown that groups with different levels of compliance between recommended and selected faculty do not differ with respect to success in academic performance. However, the research has shown the differences between the group of full compliance and the group in which there is no compliance between recommended and selected faculty, whereby the respondents who accepted the advice showed greater faculty satisfaction, job satisfaction and affective occupational commitment.
