Abstract

In order to examine motivational beliefs on students of higer primary and secondary education for subject physics, Subjective Value Scale was constructed and validated on a sample of students from higer primary and secondary school. The aim was to determine the factor structure of the Subjective Value Scale and examine the relationship between students' subjective task value in psychics and some educational outcomes like success in physics and intention to choose physics as an optional subject in national exam. The study included 193 seventh and eighth-year primary students and 195 first, second and third-year high school students. Information about expected school grade and intentions for choosing physics on national exam were collected. Exploratory analysis with direct oblimin rotation revealed three – factor model which consists of: Intrinsic Value, Attainment Value and Utility Value on both samples. Internal consistency reliability was satisfying for the whole Subjective Value Scale, and for all of the individual factors. As a measure for criterion validity, the relationships between students' subjective task value and success in physics as well as intention to choose physics in national exam were examined and they all are in significaly positive correlations.
