Abstract

In the church of saint Blaise in Vodnjan is located the largest collection of relics in Croatia and during history there have been different meanings embeded in the bodies od saints. In this paper the author tries to explain what was the simbolic meaning of relics during the Republic of Venice, from where the collection was transfered, and what is their contemporary religious significance. Research showed that the relic collection still carries a religious importance for the community and on a personal level although less than in the past when it also signified great political and economic power. Judging by the plans and goals that the local church and city authorities made for making the city of Vodnjan a pilgrimage place, it might soon become reality.
