Abstract

The development of social welfare is a part of the overall development of the modern state. Institutes raised to provide poor relief to those in need go through different changes and transformations under the influence of theological, political, economical and cultural discourses. This thesis provides a general overview of models of social welfare in early modern Europe. The main goal of this thesis is to elaborate the development of social welfare in the city of Zagreb under the influence of enlightened absolutism in the second half of the 18th century.
