Abstract

This thesis presents the history of legal deposit, its development and the contemporary challenges librarians face within the context of legal deposit. A basis for the analysis of the acts on legal deposit from other European countries was made by comparing the Croatian Library Law from 1997. and the Law Proposal from 2014. A comprehensive analysis of questionnaire responses from eight deposit institutions was made during a project named “Long-term Preservation of Digital Print Masters of National Publishers (EUR24)”. Those answers were then compared to the current laws in those countries with an emphasis on the differences between the legislation and its implementation.
