Abstract

Peace Museums are specialized museums that try to present the concept of peace through heritage and their work by encouraging the public to think and act in the spirit of positive peace. In this paper we defined museums, peace museums, culture of peace, culture of war and museology of human rights. Also we have presented museum typologies and types of peace museums, which cover various topics that can be associated with the idea of peace. The activities carried out by the peace museums clearly indicate how museology can contribute to the community. An important aspect of this paper is the emphasis on collaboration between the community and museum institutions, which contributes to mutual development and makes museums an integral part of society. The paper presents the possibility of establishing a museum of peace in the Republic of Croatia.
