Abstract

The Croatian singing society „Kolo“ was founded in 1862 and it was active until 1948. „Kolo“ was an important factor in the cultural, social and artistic life of Zagreb and Croatia. After the dissolution of „Kolo“, the society’s legacy was divided and certain parts of it are nowadays stored in three institutions: the Croatian State Archives, the State Archives in Zagreb and the Croatian Music Institute. The part of the legacy at the Croatian State Archives arrived there in 1883. It was purchased from the Antique store of Matrix Croatia (Matica hrvatska) Publishing Institute, where it was kept under the name „Zbirka muzikalia“ („Music collection“) – the legacy of Dr. Stjepan Tomaš (who was the last conductor of the tamburitza orchestra of the Croatian commercial association „Merkur“). It was stated that this collection also contained a part of the legacy of the society „Kolo“, however, it is not possible to determine which parts of the collection can be attributed to „Kolo”. This paper shows an overview of the society’s legacy stored in the national archives, as well as detailed lists of its music sources from national archives.
