Abstract

Improvement in the communication systems in the last twenty years led to changes in the way we exchange information on everyday basis. Themes such as spiritism, parapsychology and occultism, that were approached from the distance in every day life, started to unfold inside the virtual space. Research is directed towards understanding spiritism and spiritistic practices on the Internet communication channels with the purpose of questioning the way spiritistic experiences are communicated and comprehended on these channels as well as to exploring (specific) virtual communities that are gathered around the subject (if they exist). Beside explaining, analysing and comparing basic terms of spiritism and spiritistic teachings and practices, the study is arguing both process and issues of the research in virtual space, such as questioning the authenticity of the data and the ethical principles in collecting data in online setting, and as well offers the analysis of the term virtual community.
