Abstract

The paper deals with the application of developmental bibliotherapy in school libraries. In the first part of the paper, the definitions of bibliotherapy, historical review, various types of bibliotherapy, objectives and its applications are presented. Special attention is paid to the very bibliotherapeutic process and its phases, the bibliotherapeutic value of literary texts and the importance of their careful selection. The second part deals with the specificity of developmental bibliotherapy that can find its place in school libraries. The role of school librarians was emphasized as well as the differences in the use of developmental bibliotherapy in working with children of elementary and secondary education, with examples of good practice.
