Abstract
The appearance of conservative civil society organizations in the Croatian public
space proved to be a major challenge for liberal and progressive organizations and the
state itself. Such organizations are characterized by religious and traditional values that
are dominated by discourse in neo-conservatism circles. This paper seeks to explore the
value features of civil society organizations in the Republic of Croatia, and which value
criteria make an organization a civil society organization, in addition to the minimum
formal and legal criteria for registration of these organizations. The aim of the paper
was to determine whether in terms of values they stand for, conservatively oriented
organizations that have become visible on the scene of Croatian civil society over the
last few years, represent a legitimate part of civil society.
