Abstract

A positive outlook in organizational psychology encompasses focusing on positive organizational phenomena, realization of one's potential and virtues, as well as encouragement of optimal functioning. Positive psychological capital, consisting of self-efficacy, hope, optimism and resilience, seems to be related to various desirable employee outcomes, including attitudes, behavior and general well-being. The aim of this study was to explore the relationship between psychological capital, perceived employability and age. The sample comprises 213 electrical engineering and computer science graduates. The study was administered online, and Psychological Capital Questionnaire (Luthans, Youssef & Avolio, 2007) and Self-Perceived Employability Scale (Rothwell & Arnold, 2007) were used for data collection. Results show that age has an effect on psychological capital levels – the level of psychological capital is significantly higher for employees between 35 and 50 years of age, in comparison with those younger than 35. Also, while psychological capital is positively related to perceived employability, age seems to have no effect neither on the strength of that relationship, nor on the perceived employability itself.
