Abstract
Today’s Audiovisual and former Music Department in Karlovac Public Library has celebrated 50 years of work this year. Its opening in 1965 has been a significant cultural event not only for thec ityof Karlovac, but for music departments in Croatian public libraries in general, as being one of the few that has been working continuously. Department's collections have changed a lot in the last two decades. Today the Department offers its users free access to book and non-bookmaterial.Apart from acquisition, storage and lending of AV materials, the department actively participates in the organisation of concerts, lectures and exhibitions. Considering the increasing impact the technological development has on the decrease of music department users, musically educated librarians ought to follow new technologies and demands of their users.
