Abstract

The topic of this paper is information and communications technologies and their role in today's society. The paper shows the development of the personal computer and the Internet, both of which are responsible for driving technologies forward. It takes a general look on the most prominent communication technologies of recent history and today, focusing on the situation in Croatia. Devices used in these technologies are also examined because they play a crucial part in the communication chain. Finally, different impacts of communication technologies on our society are brought up, mentioning their primary applications and benefits.
