Abstract

This paper explores the influence that digital environment has on the mass medium that is comics and the way comics adapted to it. The primary focus is on digital comics as they interact with the digital environment much more than their printed versions. Their interaction is examined through three aspects of digital environment that influence digital comics the most: the technological aspect that deals with the way they are created, in which formats they exist in and what is required to read them; the publishing aspect that deals with the way they are made available to the public, put on the market, and distributed in digital form; and the last aspect that deals with how they group together and function within online collections, as well as parts of bigger digital collections. The paper is rounded off by a research done in the digital environment to gather the general opinion of readers about digital comics in the three previously mentioned aspects.
