Abstract

Records management is a set of processes and procedures that belong to the archival profession. In the Croatian archival practice the term „records management” includes a wide range of procedures with documents in institutions. Records managers are professionals who supervise maintenance of records, they control creation, evaluation, storage, preservation and use of records in their institution. The underlying assumption of records management is the principle that each institution is efficient and responsible in their business, that they have comprehensive archive – records management office, and that they establish standardized control over creation, storage and use of records. The basis for every records management program is the international standard ISO 15489 Information and documentation – Records management. In the framework of records management, various models are formed. The most famous models are the records life cycle model and records continuum model. The difference between these two models is their approach to management - the life cycle model has custodial approach and records continuum postcustodial. The records life-cycle model emphasizes that the creator is the evaluator of records, while records continuum model highlights the joint action of all records management stakeholders.
