Abstract

Photographs are equally important as any other type of material containing information. Their long-term preservation is necessary, both in analog and digital form. This thesis explains the processes behind analog and digital photography, digitization, restoration, and local and online storage of digital or digitized photographs. It then describes the process of digitization of three personal photographs and their restoration conducted in five raster graphics editors. Lastly, it shows the ways of storing digital photographs and compares several services for their local as well as online storage and organization.
