Abstract

This paper uses cultural geography to provide a new insight into characteristics of place, space, non-place, public spaces and memorials, which are becoming increasingly difficult to define as they begin to overlap in today’s globalized transitional society. Once an epitome of Auge's non-place, the malls are increasingly becoming venues of public events and leisure. The original classification of the malls as in hence brought into question, as they gain new uses and characteristics that require further research. The characteristics of malls and their relation the determinants of places, non places and public spaces is explored here on the example of Arena Centar Zagreb.
