Abstract

The first ISBD translated into Croatian was the ISBD(M), more precisely its first standard edition, published as the original English text, as well as the Croatian translation, in 1974. During the last four decades the publisher, Croatian Library Association, is publishing translations of specialized ISBDs. In December 2014 Association published the Croatian translation of the consolidated edition of ISBD. Counting all editions of specialized ISBDs, as well as the Guidelines for the application of the ISBDs to the description of component parts, and two editions of the consolidated ISBD, IFLA, so far, has published a total of 26 publications. Each of these publications has a separate section with definitions of cataloguing terms. On the Croatian language 15 publications were translated. Numerous Croatian experts in the cataloguing field have worked on the translations, as translators and/or professional advisors of translations. Quantitative indicators presented in the paper clearly show that the development of Croatian cataloguing terminology, to a large extent, is directly related to translations of ISBDs. The second part of the papar is dedicated to the development of the Croatian cataloguing terminology. Special attention is directed to the solution from the new translation of the consolidated ISBD in order to answer questions: which terms have remained unchanged, which were modified, and why, and which are newly introduced.
