Abstract

This baccalaureus graduate thesis explains what are CGI and computer animation and how they are used in films. The differences between these two terms will be pointed out and the beginings of animation in cartoons will be shown, alongside live action films to present day films and also how the preparation for animation actually looks like along with the animation of the characters themselves in an animation programme. It will be presented which types of animation exist as well as what needs to be done before and after the animation to create the final product. Also a special type of software for capturing movement will be explained, which has become very popular these past few years, for it enables very realistic character movement, not just in films but in video games as well and it is called motion capture.
