Abstract

This paper gives a brief historical overview of the development of information services at home and abroad as well as insight into the development of the information service of the City Library in Zagreb as the most important and central library in the library network of the city. Extracting information services as separate entities contributed to the faster and better development of various programs for users. The library as a very important place in the local community seeks to support its customers in meeting their information needs, lifelong learning, leisure and cultural and artistic activities. Information specialists create a base of credible and relevant sources of information and with direct contact with users achieve informational, advisory and educational role of public libraries. The analysis of the report on the operations of the City Library and interviews with information specialist states what are the activities of those services, which programs were made in 2015. and with what results. In the questionnaire library users stated wich services they mostly use and how many are aware of the programs held in the library.
