Abstract

This paper deals with library management and planning, which is the primary function of management. From all the different types of plans a library makes, strategic plans are in focus. First part of this paper contains theoretical overview of management, its functions, the function of planning, and strategic plans. Second part of the paper contains a study on strategic plans of the Croatian national libraries and of selected foreign national libraries. There were multiple goals of the study: to identify the number of national libraries in Croatia that publish their strategic plans online; to form a set of criteria for the analysis of the strategic plans; to analize strategic plans of Croatian national libraries and, through analysis of strategic plans of foreign national libraries, to compare them with strategic plans of Croatian national libraries.
