Abstract

The study has been conducted in order to explore difference in attractiveness ratings between a created (male) haracter who scored high on Dark Triad of personality triats (narcissism, Machiavellianism and psychopathy) and a control character, among different contexts of interpersonal relationships as well as their difference in ratings on the HEXACO personality factors. The participants were 167 Croatian women, all of them psychology students. As hypothesized, there was a significant difference in attractiveness ratings for the two characters in the context of different interpersonal relationships, with high DT character rated as significantly more attractive than the control character in context of a short-term mating. For the HEXACO, t-tests showed that the high DT character was rated significantly higher on Extraversion, while for the other HEXACO factors the low DT character was rated significantly higher. Furthermore, the hierarchical regression analysis found that the Dark Triad of personality, along with the Agreeableness and Honesty-Humility from the HEXACO model, had a significant contribution in prediction of attractiveness ratings, in the short-term mating context.
