Abstract
The thesis deals with a selection of posters for exhibitions held by the Museum of Arts and Crafts, dating from the 1950s to the present. The Museum's posters proved to be a successful form of advertisement which, beyond their informative function, became a testimony of the spirit of the times and modes of thinking about design. Among the examined works are those of Ivan Picelj, who became the most prominent artist in the Museum for almost two decades (1962 – 1980) due to the quality and quantity of his works. Thanks to Picelj, the Museum became a promotional platform for good Croatian design. Since its founding in 1880, the Museum of Arts and Crafts scrutinizes and educates the society and strives to keep pace with modern trends in advertising by commissioning Croatian artists in the field of graphic design to create posters for its exhibitions.
