Abstract
This paper reviews the gender/sexual stereotypes of male and female identity that are present in selected serials of Italian comics. The first part of the paper presents a brief history of the formation of comics as well as the main determinants of the Italian comics focusing on the publishing house Sergio Bonelli Editore. It presents the concepts of popular culture, sex, gender, and stereotypes which are important for content analysis. Also, it presents the selected scientific papers featuring the appearance and role of women in comics. Key
