Abstract

This paper describes the verbotonal method for the rehabilitation of speech and listening. In the first part, the theroretical framework is outlined - expected hearing and speech-language development, the development of hearing and speech of children with hearing difficulties, and finally, verbotonal theory and its scientific foundations. In the second part of the paper, the application of the verbotonal method is depicted through the description of the empirical research based on the observance of five children - participants during eight-month span in the Polyclinic for the Rehabilitation of Listening and Speech SUVAG. This research paper has three main goals: 1) to describe the methodology of the rehabilitation using verbotonal method in the individual and group therapy, 2) to observe the development of hearing and speech-language development of children with hearing impairment during individual rehabilitation, 3) to observe the development of the group dynamics during group rehabilitation. With respect to this, two hypothesis are formed: children will demonstrate hearing and speech-language progress in the individual rehabilitation during the observed period and children will demonstrate progress in their ability to interact in the group during activities in group rehabilitation process in a observed period. The results of this research have confirmed mentioned hypotesis.
