Abstract

The paper explains the notion and concept of information literacy and its application in national libraries. Particular emphasis is placed on children and young adults and literacy programs that are extremely important for this group of users. First part of this paper contains theoretical overview of information literacy, literacy in public libraries, the role of librarians and parents in such programs as well as children and young adults. Second part of the paper contains a study done in selected children's departments of the Zagreb City Libraries. The goal was to determine how patrons are familiar with the concept and application of information literacy in everyday life.
