Abstract

People with intellectual disabilities have always been found on the margins of society. It was common throughout history for them to be seen as a problem, but today, along with new declarations that promote a rise in the level of consciousness of dignity and welfare of each human being, people with intellectual disabilities have started gaining rights, which helps them with inclusion in society. However, some of their rights are still left on the margins. This thesis will be covering the topic of sexual rights and education of people with intellectual disabilities. The thesis consists of theoretical and empirical part. The theoretical section is a short overview of development of pedagogy and sexual pedagogy, historical perspective of people with intellectual disabilities, their education and sexual education, also presenting examples from other countries and results of previous researches. The empirical part presents results of quantitative research on different aspects of sexuality of people with intellectual disabilities from the perspective of experts who work in institutions for education of people with special needs. The sample includes four study participants from two different institutions which are in perennial everyday contact with adult people with intellectual disabilities. The interview covers three aspects of sexual rights and education: implicit pedagogy of study participants, evaluation of level of preparation for execution of sexual education programme, and culture of the institution.
