Abstract

The libraries have ceased to be only physical places for storing books, they become community's information and communication center. They are also increasingly becoming virtual places, and communication with customers is also increasingly happening in an online environment. One of the most popular communication channels are social networks, and among Croatian libraries the most popular is Facebook. The paper will analyze the presence of various types of libraries on Facebook based on a survey questionnaire that will collect data on the activities of libraries in the Republic of Croatia on Facebook. The aim is to show similarities and differences, and also positive and negative sides of that communication channel for libraries. At the same time, the question arises the current position of Facebook, its future and the possibilities for libraries within some other social network.
