Abstract

This paper presents age of acquisition as a factor in lexical processing. The age of acquisition is a psycholinguistic variable that represents the age when a word is acquired. Variables that are studied along with the age of acquisition are concreteness, familiarity, imageability, frequency and neighborhood density. In addition, ten studies dealing with this topic were presented and processed. Methods that were used are described and the results obtained in the mentioned studies are presented. The example of a prospective study for the Croatian language is also described.
