Abstract
This thesis can be divided into three parts: first is the translation of two short stories, The Bridge (Most) and Světlana, included in the final collection of short stories written by the Czech contemporary author Jan Balabán. The second part covers the biography and cultural activities of J. Balabán as well as the brief description of the short story collection We are here (Jsme tady). The third part contains the translational analysis of the original text where we further addressed the following problems that arose during the translation: onomatopoeic words, curses and vulgarisms, technical terms and translation of phrases and fixed expressions. The aim of this thesis is primarily to familiarize the reader with the translation procedures, methods, and to find on the basis of the theoretical knowledge a suitable translation solution. The aim of the work is also to introduce the work and style of Jan Balabán to the Croatian audience.
