Abstract
This paper deals with the analysis of didactic content in elementary school history textbooks. A textbook is specific literature that gives learning materials, which are organized and structured in such a way to achieve its basic purpose of being the source of knowledge in the learning process. Textbooks are simultaneously teaching tools and a pupil’s most widespread source of knowledge in school. For the purpose of this research we can define “didactic contents” as components that accompany, describe, present, explain, and sometimes deliver textually presented content. By using didactic design on the textual, visual and graphic content, we are able to create a whole textbook based on didactic principles. By using didactic design on the contents and learning materials in textbooks, we can direct the learning activities and methods towards achieving our set learning goals. The main purpose of this paper was to collect, research and analyze the didactic content in history textbooks published in 2014. We have also explored their functionality i.e. the way didactic content encourages students to additional activities during all the phases of the learning process.
