Abstract

Cultural heritage is an indispensable element of every society. But most cultural heritage is subject to natural decay. The accelerated development of technologies, particularly electronic and information technology, has enabled the development and application of digitization as an excellent tool for storing, sorting, and presenting cultural heritage in various ways. As a result, there is a increasing number of digital collections of libraries, museums and archives across the globe, including the Republic of Croatia. The purpose of the graduate specialist work is to clarify the basic knowledge about the digitalization process and its application in preserving cultural heritage. There was used secondary and primary data in the study. The primary data is consist of the internal documentation of the Ethnographic Museum in Zagreb, an interview with the responsible person for planning, implementing and controlling the digitization process of cultural heritage with an emphasis on the photo gallery of the Ethnographic Museum.
