Abstract
The eco-museum was created in response to social changes after the Second World War. It emerged within the framework of the movement of the new museology, and it focuses on a community that drives it, a heritage belonging to it and a territory that has no boundaries. In this paper, I shall present how and where it developed, what are its characteristics and how to apply them to a living example in today's circumstances. A large section of the paper is also dedicated to the topic of interpretation, a discipline that communicates the meaning of heritage to the visitor. It includes a list of all the media that can be used for that purpose, the rules of writing texts and visually designing content, as well as the suitable materials for a given space. What is needed to set up an eco-museum, how to present heritage and devise a quality and educational content, and how to implement it without negatively affecting the lives of the local community, shall be illustrated with the example of the conceptual plan of the eco-museum Babina Greda.
